Blog SOLIDWORKS 2021 What’s New – Simulation-Copy Tabular Results
Simulation has become an invaluable tool for SOLIDWORKS users since 1995 when COSMOSworks became a SOLIDWORKS gold partner. Since then the product has evolved into what we know today as SOLIDWORKS Simulation.
For people who do not use SIMULATION a lot, it has a certain majesty; the colorful plots and neat animations give a sense of technological wonder. However, pretty colors and videos only go so far for an engineer. Eventually, we need hard data. SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2021 has introduced a neat quality of life improvement that makes exporting hard data from SOLIDWORKS Simulation that much easier. Let’s take a look.
The best ways to get hard data from a model in SOLIDWORKS Simulation are via the probe tool, result force, connector force, or friction force plots. These should be familiar to users of SOLIDWORKS Simulation, but as a review the options are available below:
As you can see, there is a new option for exporting this hard data out. By simply clicking the “Copy” icon, the entire table will be copied to the windows clipboard for easy pasting anywhere! This is a vast improvement over exporting first as a .csv then copying and pasting into word, PowerPoint, or any other 3rd party tool you may be using. You can copy reaction forces, free body forces, contact/friction forces, connector forces, and probed results in this manner.
But wait! That’s not all! This feature may seem simple, but it is a great quality of life improvement for Simulation users. It’s such a great improvement that SOLIDWORKS has back-ported this capability all they way back to SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2020 SP3! So fear not, those who are a bit late to update, you can use this functionality all the way back to mid 2020 releases to help inform your design process!
