SOLIDWORKS 2020 What’s New – Adding Callouts for Non-Hole Wizard Holes
A new feature inside of SOLIDWORKS 2020 is the ability to add Cosmetic Thread Callouts for Non-Hole Wizard holes. With SOLIDWORKS 2019 and earlier, if there is a hole with a Cosmetic Thread created by something other than the Hole Wizard, the Cosmetic Thread callouts would appear as a dimension, and not as the Cosmetic Thread callout itself.
For instance, if a model has two holes created by two Cut-Extrudes and two corresponding Cosmetic Threads.
Within the drawing of this model, use the Smart Dimension tool to select on one silhouette edge of the Cosmetic Thread, and then the other silhouette edge of the Cosmetic Thread.
Once both silhouette edges of the Cosmetic Thread are selected while within the Smart Dimension tool, click to place the Cosmetic Thread callout.
Also new in SOLIDWORKS 2020, is the ability to exclude the thread Type (such as Machine Thread or Straight Pipe Tapped Thread) from callouts for Cosmetic Threads in parts, assemblies, and drawings. To exclude, or simplify Cosmetic Thread callouts, within the Cosmetic Thread PropertyManager, under Thread Callout, de-select “Show type”.
I hope this part of the What’s New series gives you a better understanding of the new features and functions of SOLIDWORKS 2020. Please check back to the CATI Blog as the CATI Application Engineers will continue to break down many of the new items in SOLIDWORKS 2020. All these articles will be stored in the category of “SOLIDWORKS What’s New.”
