SOLIDWORKS 2019 What’s New – Defeature Property Manager – #SW2019
SOLIDWORKS 2019 has an enhanced property manager and selection types for creating defeatures. Here is 2018 on the left and 2019 on the right
In the new property manager, the left icon runs the same Defeature command you are used to from 2018, the right icon runs the Silhouette mode as seen in the next image.
Bodies and components can still be selected one at a time to create the groups.
Or you can select them using the simplification methods in the dropdown box as seen in the next image.
The types are:
The types are:
Bounding Box Creates a cuboid bounding box.
Cylinder Creates a cylinder derived from the dimensions of a cuboid bounding box.
Polygon Outline Creates an extruded polygon that fits around the outline of the selected bodies and components.
Tight Fit Outline Creates an extruded body by using the outlines of the selected bodies and components.
None (Copy Geometry) Creates an exact copy of the selected bodies and components.
I used a cabinet to show the selection set from the body group would result in the removal of the internal items and also defeatured the body.
The back of the cabinet louvers and glass are removed to give a clean solid body with no internal details. I saved the Defeatured model just as 2018 worked.
I hope this part of the What’s New series gives you a better understanding of the new features and functions of SOLIDWORKS 2019. Please check back to the CATI Blog as the CATI Application Engineers will continue to break down many of the new items in SOLIDWORKS 2019. All these articles will be stored in the category of “SOLIDWORKS What’s New.”
