Performing Tasks is Easy with SOLIDWORKS Task Scheduler
SOLIDWORKS Task Scheduler is a great tool when working with drawings. There are many tasks included in the tool to help with performing batch operations for drawing related functions. For most functionality of Task Scheduler, SOLIDWORKS Professional, Premium or Office is required. Here are the many tasks available.
I’m going to show the Update Custom Properties task. I’ll update the Project, Material and Finish. This is what we are starting with.
Let’s launch the Task Scheduler by clicking on the Microsoft Start icon in the lower left corner. Expand SOLIDWORKS Tools 2022 and click SOLIDWORKS Task Scheduler
The SOLIDWORKS Task Scheduler dialog box opens. I’ll click Update Custom Properties.
From here we can select individual files or an entire folder. You have the option to Include sub-folders by clicking the tick box. I’ll select Add Folder and navigate to the folder where the custom properties need updating. By default SOLIDWORKS file type are .sldprt, .sldasm and .slddrw. You have the option to choose which file extension you want updated.
In the Task Schedule area, you can select a Running Mode. Either Once, Daily, weekly, or Monthly. You can also select a Start Time and Start Date. Click Next.
Click next so we can define the new value for the Project, Material and Finish. We can use the drop-down menus, or you can even type it in the Name and Type Fields. For the new value, simply type it in.
From there, let SOLIDWORKS do its thing. SOLIDWORKS will open the associated files in the background. You can expand the task to view the status of the subtask.
Once the task is complete, you can click items in the Title and Status columns to view reports of the action taken.
Here is a look at the updated drawing with the updated Custom Properties.
Another great tool SOLIDWORKS has to offer with helping you update Custom Properties and more.
