Create an Enterprise PDM Report

Enterprise PDM comes with an extremely capable search tool, however there are instances where some advanced reporting is necessary. Typically this more in depth information can easily be acquired by an administrator creating an SQL query to access that information. But what about the rest of the users who don’t have access to the SQL Server Management Studio yet still to search for this information? That is where the Enterprise PDM Report tool comes in handy!

Creating a report for Enterprise PDM is relatively easy, but it does involve some additional coding on top of the standard SQL query. Below is the text for a standard template for creating a report. Save the following text into a .txt file.

Start by filling out the necessary information such as Name and Description while making sure to keep the text inside of the square brackets. The two arguments, “String <Prompt1> [1] [The prompt 1 text.]” and “String <Pronpt2> [1] [The prompt 2 text.]” are there for a placeholder only. If your query does not require any user input then the two arguments should be deleted. When you have the functioning SQL query, you can paste it over the “Insert your SQL query here” text in the template. When completed, change the file extension of this file from a .txt to .crp.

To import the crp file into Enterprise PDM to run as a report, ensure that you are logged into EPDM as Admin or another user that has the “Can update report queries” permission activated, then simply double click the file. It will ask you to define which users/groups have permission to run this report, and then import it.

If the user does not have that permission checked, the report tool will open up but without the new report. Otherwise you should see your new report in the reporting tool as you have named it. You may also import new reports by opening the Report Generator (“Tools” > “Report Generator” while in the local vault view) and clicking the “Import Query…” button.
