Their staff of engineers, 85% of which have achieved their CSWP or CSWA, offer a wide variety of hands-on experience to create a cost-effective and practical solution to virtually every engineering problem. Each CSWP/CSWA has proven their ability to design and analyze parametric parts and moveable assemblies using a variety of sophisticated features in SOLIDWORKS.
MJ Engineering, SOLIDWORKS, & Certifications
MJ Engineering purchased SOLIDWORKS in 2002. Richard Wand, now CEO, was on the evaluation team. “It was the ease of use that helped decide to go with SOLIDWORKS.”
“At the time, we were using Pro Engineer predominantly. It required a very structured modeling technique. It became challenging to find good users of Pro Engineer. SolidWorks is far easier to use. It’s far easier to learn which allowed us to hire more staff, which was more readily available, and that could adapt to SOLIDWORKS easier than Pro Engineer.”, Richard said.
When a new project comes in these days, the engineers and designers choose to do it in SOLIDWORKS. “It’s the one that the team has the most history with, and it’s been our bread and butter software package since installing in 2002”, Richard says. Today 95% of their work is done in SOLIDWORKS.
The SW certification program is also something Richard finds beneficial. “As a business owner, I put all of my employees that use SOLIDWORKS through the certification program. It assures my knowledge of my employee’s competency on the software,” says Richard. He is even a CSWP himself.
A trusted partner in their day-to-day business.
MJ Engineering has an excellent relationship with 3DVision Technologies. Richard commented, “3DVision Technologies is a first-class organization that provides a first-class service to us as CAD users and continues to provide support and backing to the user groups in the local community.”
MJ Engineering’s use of SOLIDWORKS is extensive compared to most, routinely dealing with assemblies that contain 15,000 or 20,000 pieces, pushing the software to the limits every day.
Most of the Engineers at MJ have been using SOLIDWORKS for over ten years and don’t call support that often, but when they do, they get immediate attention because support knows it’s a real issue.
It doesn’t mean that they don’t get frustrated at times, but by in large when they compare their SOLIDWORKS experience to the experience of other vendors it is far superior. 3D CAD and SOLIDWORKS are a major part of what MJ Engineering does, and that’s not going to change, and quite frankly their business couldn’t function without SOLIDWORKS at this point.
