The Revolutionary J55 3D Printer From Stratasys

This summer saw the release of a completely new printer platform from Stratasys, the J55. It has been designed from the ground up to be the first office-friendly, full color 3D printer.

It does this in a number of ways:

The revolutionary (pun intended) build tray spins so that the print head only needs to move in one direction as opposed to the two of most other printers. This reduces the noise from motors moving the print head as well as allowing for fast printing of the full color models. And also reduces the amount of room that’s needed for the print heads.

The footprint of the printer is extremely compact, even significantly smaller than the F123 series FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) printers which are already a great size for offices. Just over two feet wide and deep as well as only 5 feet tall, the only struggle you’ll have when picking a spot is deciding who’s desk it gets to be by.

All of the functions of the J55 have been made even easier to operate as well as the regular maintenance becoming more user-friendly. This means that even those who aren’t technically inclined can easily operate and maintain this printer without needing to be particularly handy or having a dedicated operator.

There is also an optional add-on in the form of a specialized air filtration device that will remove any sort of smell from the resins during operation. This is even further reducing the operating impact on the rest of the office.

All of these improvements do not come at the cost of functionality. The J55 is an extremely capable printer.

3D Printed Speakers with Replaceable Covers

The printer can print in full color using Stratasys’ Vero Vivid color resins at a great 300 DPI. This means that your CMF (Color, Material, and Finish) models will be lifelike and highlight the quality of your designs. Not only can you have color but you can have Pantone validated colors so you can be confident the colors you see on your models will be the same high quality color on any and all models across the country.

Oh, you don’t need color? The J55 also has access to DraftGrey, a grey colored rigid resin that is a cheaper alternative to the rest of the Vero family. This is a great way to get fit and form models with high levels of detail on your part’s geometry while also saving money as well as time. That’s right, DraftGrey also prints faster than other resins to expedite your modeling process.

There are currently seven model materials available for the J55. I’m excited to see how this new product develops and is improved, just as Stratasys has consistently done with all of their machines.
