What I learned at AMUG 2017 Part 5
Your back for more? This is part 5 of the “What I learned at AMUG” series. This post is from Mark Oakes, Account manger, from our Novi, MIchigan office. See here for part 1, part 2, part 3, and part 4.
1. Meeting and having a one-on-one discussion with industry inventors. Scott Crump; I asked him what would be the next great step in the industry. He asked me if I thought I could sell a 3D Printer that produced thousands of parts a day. I said “Sell it!?, Heck, I’d buy one!” (I made Scott Crump smile and Laugh).
Carl Deckard; Met the Father of Selective Laser Sintering 3D Printing as 3dprint.com calls him. Interesting but quiet fellow.
I also met a nice guy named Vikram early in the week and bumped into him numerous times during the conference. While taking with him again on the last night I found out he’s Carl’s CEO from Structured Polymers.
2. Technologies; I was surprised at the amount of metals manufactures present. Being able to view new technologies and competitors was very valuable.
3. Presentations; The keynote Walter Reed Military Hospital presentation was amazing to see what’s being done in the medical field. Legacy Effects and Under Armour were great because of how the technology is used in their industries.
4. Networking; Is absolutely the biggest benefit of these functions. Meeting like minded folks and discovering where they play in the industry help expand your vision. Bonding with the 3DVision Technologies 3D Printing Team was great fun. Jeff was my first roommate in 30 years that didn’t hit me with a pillow in the middle of the night for snoring.
5. Firehose Effect; Over the last 6 months I’ve worked to absorb all the AM technology I can and learn how and where it’s utilized.
This event was like drinking from the Additive Manufacturing Firehose on a hot day. Thanks for the opportunity!
